Friendly Fires & White Lies @ Lee’s Palace (March 31, 2009)

I went to Lee’s Palace a couple of nights ago to see Friendly Fires and White Lies with Barb, Justin, John and Thilo. John loves Friendly Fires but unfortunately we only got to see a couple of songs when they opened for Lykke Li back in the spring. They were great and a lot of fun… and that singer does not stop dancing!

White Lies were good, too, but it’s difficult to compare the bands as they are so different. Friendly Fires clearly has more experience and is more comfortable on the stage. White Lies did a good job but I think they’ll be much more confident after a couple more tours. They looked exhausted and also a bit frightened! I’d been looking forward to seeing them and I clearly wasn’t the only one, seeing as the show was sold out.

Here are a few pics and videos that I took:

Back from Europe

Felix and I just returned from a 2-week vacation to Germany and Austria. We had an amazing time and saw some incredible sights.

I am slowly going through photos in iPhoto and uploading to my photo site. I will post some here from time to time. Here is a one taken outside of Vienna’s Westbahnhof.

TIFF: Borat (Red Carpet)

Lora and I headed over to Ryerson theatre to try to catch a glimpse of Borat on the World Premiere Red Carpet of Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. I heard that there were 350+ in the RUSH line for this sold-out screening – crazy!

Music (Kazakhstanian?) started playing and Borat rode in on a horse, which was was on a cart being pulled… by women! I managed to take a few pictures, but it was difficult as we were far away and there was such a crowd.

After he went into the theatre, I realized that I’d been standing behind my friend Jay! He was also there to take pictures of Borat, so that was pretty cool.

The rest can be found here.
